Description:

The artist group Fallen Fruit in collaboration with Islands of LA have planted 72 tomato plants in 12 traffic islands around the city. These areas were perfect for the project because they were blanks but irrigated. At the end of the project they created a map and invited the public to discover these new urban spaces and taste the tomatoes.

Goals:

The project tested the definition and use of public space in the city of Los Angeles, imagining new ways in which such spaces could be utilised for the enjoyment of all.

Beneficial Outcomes:

The re-use of public spaces and the fact that public sampled the tomatoes.
